Staying active and healthy during pregnancy makes it much easier for you to adapt to your changing body shape and weight gain. Depending on your usual level of activity and if you take part in high impact sports, you may find that you need to slow down as your pregnancy progresses. It’s still great to keep moving at a pace that works for you and there is lots of advice and guidance available if you need help to get the balance right.
If you weren’t active before your pregnancy you can still start some gentle exercise. It’s always best to start slowly and gradually increase your activity based on how you feel. Try starting off with just ten minutes of daily activity, such as a walk or swim, and then build up to 150 minutes of exercise spread over a week.
As a guide if you can hold a conversation during exercise you are at the right level, and if you’re struggling to do this it’s worth slowing down.
