New mums often don’t just need practical support, emotional support is important too. Some mothers can develop postnatal depression and being aware of your partner’s mood and general wellbeing can help you to be aware of any changes or concerns. If you are concerned then encouraging your partner to speak to their midwife, health visitor or GP is the best place to start.
You may find you start to feel depressed as well and it’s important to also be aware of your health and wellbeing. Talking with your partner and your friends and family can really help, and your GP can also offer you support and guidance.
