There are lots of ways you can help things along in the early stages of your labour. Keeping active and mobile is very important and many women find rocking backwards and forwards helpful to ease any pain. A firm massage to the lower back can provide relief, especially if you are suffering with back pain – this is also an ideal way for your birth partner to support you. A hot water bottle can also be a simple way to ease back pain.
Having someone with you that you know and trust to help you through this difficult time can be very comforting and reassuring. Warm water can help to soothe and relax so a warm bath at this stage, along with a standard dose of paracetamol can help you to move through this phase.
